Trust SwissSign
Trust is a basic requirement for all security models including Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). All PKIs are hierarchically organized. The top of the hierarchy (root) must be implicitly trusted in the sense that you trust the content of the corresponding Root Certificate. The SwissSign Root Certificates are trusted, among others by Microsoft, Mozilla, and Apple which allows the end-users of their aplications to validate SwissSign certificates. Namely, once the Root Certificate of a PKI is trusted, any sub certificate of this hierarchical tree can be securely verified.
Additionally, trusting a Certificate Authority (CA) means that you trust the different processes involved in a PKI such as the client registration or certificate validation (CRL, OCSP).
The Certificate Policy and Certification Practice Statements (CP/CPS) provide transparency to the overall processes and thus helps to improve trust. Thus, you can assess your trust in a SwissSign CA by reading its CP/CPS. Moreover, SwissSign is a qualified Certification Service Provider in Switzerland, fullfilling the requirements of the swiss electronic signature law (ZertES) based on the strongest international standards in the area.
To trust and use a SwissSign CA you must read and accept the corresponding End-User Agreement. If you want to know more about the certificate process itself, take a look at the CP/CPS. Finally import the appropriate SwissSign Root Certificate into your applications and setup the trust relationship.
